A knotted cotton rope ball on a rope loop, about the size of an orange.

Made for small to medium dogs. A Cocker, Beagle, Border Collie or anything around that size will get on with it fine. For the very small ones, a Toy Poodle or a Chihuahua, the ball is more than they can hold. Bigger dogs are better off with the extreme version.

Rope is good for their mouth. Chewing on it works between the teeth a bit like floss and gives the gums something to press on, which is why we like rope over plastic. And because it is knotted tightly, it takes a lot of pulling before it loosens at all, so with normal use this should last you a long time.

The loop lets you swing it, throw it further than you could a bare ball, and hold your end of a tug of war without losing a finger. It also means the dog can carry it around by the tail, which they do.

Rope does eventually fray if a dog gets to work on it alone, so keep it as a play-together toy, check it now and then, and take it away once strands come loose.
